Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and The Flaming Lips will perform at VH1’s upcoming salute to The Who.
For the first time, VH1 Rock Honors will celebrate one group, in this case Britain’s favorite mod band. This year’s event will be taped July 12 at Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus, with additional performers, presenters and special guests to announced as they commit to the concert. The night will feature tribute performances by the three bands, leading up to the grand finale performance by the “whonorees” themselves.
A two-hour takedown, VH1 Rock Honors: The Who will premiere Thursday, July 17 at 9 p.m. on VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD. The influence of The Who will be felt through spoken tributes, filmed packages and performances by some of today’s premiere rock acts, as well as Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey themselves.
VH1.com will also offer select performances from the show leading up to and following the on-air premiere at Rock.VH1.com.
Last November, VH1 premiered the feature-length documentary, Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who.
