Ottawa -- Rogers Cantel, a sister company to RogersCablesystems, is among eight companies applying for multipoint-communications systems(MCS) licenses in Canada.
The licenses will allow successful applicants to transmittwo-way voice, data, multimedia, and one-way television over the 2,500 MHz band. Competingagainst Rogers Cantel, a wireless-telephone carrier, is competitive-wireless carrier TelusMobility. It's owned by Telus, the incumbent telco in British Columbia and Albertaprovinces.
The Canadian government will award the licenses on a meritbasis.
