Ottawa -- Rogers Cantel, a sister company to Rogers
Cablesystems, is among eight companies applying for multipoint-communications systems
(MCS) licenses in Canada.
The licenses will allow successful applicants to transmit
two-way voice, data, multimedia, and one-way television over the 2,500 MHz band. Competing
against Rogers Cantel, a wireless-telephone carrier, is competitive-wireless carrier Telus
Mobility. It's owned by Telus, the incumbent telco in British Columbia and Alberta
