Canadian MSO Rogers Cable Inc. saw its basic-subscriber base drop 0.8 percent
during the first quarter to 2.27 million homes.

Rogers blamed the decrease on a 'greater proliferation of legitimate band
[and] black/gray-market DTH [direct-to-home] satellite-TV services.'

Cable revenue increased 9.4 percent to $379.4 million, while the company's
cable operating profit increased 5 percent to $141.3 million.

The MSO's high-speed-data subscriber count increased by 41 percent to
500,000, while its digital-household count jumped 35.9 percent to
259,400.
