Rogers Cable Communications is expanding its roster of sports networks.
Canada's largest cable operator has reached an agreement with CTV Inc., the nation's largest private broadcaster, for carriage of sports service TSN2, as well as TSN2HD and RDS HD. Deal terms were not disclosed.
Beginning May 19, TSN2 will be available to Rogers subscribers on a free preview on Rogers digital channel 1. Before month's end, TSN2 will be available to Rogers Digital VIP Cable subscribers at its permanent location on
channel 98. TSN2 HD will be available to customers that subscribe to TSN and have the HDTV Specialty Theme Pak.
"We'd like to thank our customers for their patience as we worked hard towards an agreement that would offer choice and the widest possible variety of programming," said Rogers vice president television services David Purdy in a statement. "We are always looking at new services and channels to bring to our customers, and TSN2 was one part of the negotiations to offer a wide range of sports, and HD programming."
Rogers' customers will have complete coverage of this week's three-game series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox. The games will be available starting on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. (ET) as part of the aforementioned free preview and to analog customers on channel 59.
