Rainbow Media Holdings Inc. veteran Dan Ronayne has been promoted to senior vice president and general manager of Rainbow’s Mag Rack video-on-demand service.
He replaces Matt Strauss, who joined Comcast Corp. in June to start a similar VOD venture for that MSO.
Ronayne, who most recently was senior VP of marketing and communications for Voom HD Originals, also worked previously as VP of marketing at Rainbow Sports Networks.
Mag Rack -- which is distributed by Rainbow parent Cablevision Systems Corp., Charter Communications Inc. and Insight Communications Co. Inc. -- contains about 20 VOD channels, ranging from Classic Cars to School of Music.
“My priorities are to build on the momentum that Mag Rack has,” said Ronayne, who pointed to recent additions of music-instruction and video-game content. The company has also pared back on some content, such as VOD channels for wine and bird enthusiasts.
“The early goals are to build on the success we’ve had and figure out a way to get that ball rolling,” Ronayne added.
Ronayne, 46, first worked in the cable industry in 1987, at SportsChannel.
