Mexican pop singer Paulina Rubio will host the third annual MTV Video Music Awards Latin America 2004, MTV Networks Latin America said Monday.
The VMALAs will air live from the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Thursday, Oct. 21 at 9 p.m. EST, 10 p.m. in Mexico and 10:30 p.m. in Argentina and Chile.
“Paulina brings a great dynamic to this year’s show,” MTVN Latin America executive vice president of programming, production, creative and marketing Charlie Singer said in a prepared statement. “She's sexy, independent, and outrageous -- a perfect combo with the irreverence of MTV and the VMALAs.”
Performers will include Beastie Boys, Colombian singer and songwriter Juanes, Mexican pop-rock singer Julieta Venegas, Vicentico, Spain’s Alex Ubago, Tiziano Ferro, Belinda, Natalia Lafourcade and a special appearance by Shakira.
Venegas and Café Tacvba topped the list with five nominations each, followed by Spain’s Alejandro Sanz and Argentina’s Diego Torres and Babasonicos with four apiece and Chilean band La Ley with three.
