Rural Cable Op Upgrades To DOCSIS 3.0 With Arris

Arris Group's professional services team completed a DOCSIS 3.0 upgrade for Madison Communications, a cable operator in central Illinois with about 5,000 subscribers.

Madison, which serves portions of the state's Madison and Macoupin counties, launched high-speed Internet service in 2001 with early DOCSIS 1.0 technology, then upgraded to DOCSIS 2.0 in 2007.

The operator decided in early 2011 to upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0 C4 cable-modem termination system from Arris, and together Madison and Arris installed a redundant fiber-optic transport ring between the headend and other key locations. Madison is now testing to begin offering faster broadband speeds to customers.

"The Arris management and engineering staff were invaluable in helping us design and complete this upgrade," Madison director of information technology Jerry Davis said. "Their expertise in areas like channel bonding and load balancing has enabled us to maximize our investment, customize our technology, and prepare us to meet future customer demand for new and exciting services."
