S-A Expands ‘Prisma’

Scientific-Atlanta Inc. said it is expanding its "Prisma" Internet-protocol-transport platform to bring packet-based performance and bandwidth efficiency to existing synchronous optical networks.

The vendor said it is adding new Prisma IP cards that will bring resilient packet-ring features to SONET architecture.

"The Prisma IP-transport solution enables existing SONET networks to maximize the use of available bandwidth by removing the inefficiencies of channeling the services and putting Ethernet over SONET," said Paul Connolly, vice president and general manager of emerging businesses at S-A, in a prepared statement.

S-A said the Prisma IP "MPLS/RPR" solution supports OC-3, OC-12 and OC-12 ring interfaces.
