Scientific-Atlanta Inc. is buying up analog assets from fellow equipment provider Arris for about $37.5 million.

The Atlanta-based cable-equipment vendor is buying analog optics, nodes and radio-frequency products developed in Arris' network-technologies unit.

"This transaction extends Scientific-Atlanta's product offering and enhances our ability to offer products and services to a wider customer base," said Dwight Duke, president of S-A's transmission-network-systems business.

The purchase should be finalized by the end of the year.
