The National Hockey League's Buffalo (N.Y.) Sabres filed for bankruptcy
protection Monday.

The team had been owned by embattled former Adelphia Communications Corp.
chairman John Rigas, until the league seized control of it in June.

The Sabres became the second NHL team to file for bankruptcy in the past
week, joining the Ottawa Senators.
