SAG Schedules Dec. 8 Town Hall Meeting

The Screen Actors Guild has scheduled a "town hall" meeting Dec. 8 in Los Angeles to update its members on the pending strike vote.

The meeting will update actors on efforts by the negotiating committee to pursue a contract deal and allow members to ask questions about the upcoming strike authorization ballot referendum.

The actors have not been able to come to terms with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for a new contract. The actors union is pushing for better contract terms, especially on new media.

For instance, SAG wants compensation for members for Internet productions including ones that cost as little as $15,000 per minute to produce. The actors union also faults the AMPTP offer for failure to address residuals for made-for-Internet productions when they are reused.

"An authorization will show the AMPTP that unique needs of actors can't be addressed by a pattern of bargaining," reads the meeting announcement.
