RCN Corp. launched HDTV service in its San Francisco-area systems Friday.
Subscribers who order HD-capable converter boxes can now access the operator’s HDTV tier, which includes ESPN HD, HDNet, HDNet Movies and Discovery HD Theater.
In addition, HDTV-tier customers who also subscribe to Home Box Office and Showtime will automatically receive those pay services’ HD channels.
RCN’s Bay-area systems serve South San Francisco, Daly City, San Mateo, Redwood City, Burlingame and the San Francisco communities of Noe Valley, Castro, Diamond Heights, Potrero Hill and the Mission District.
The company also offers HDTV in Boston; Manhattan and Queens, N.Y.; Washington, D.C., and Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia, Pa.
