Sandler Films Boost USA Ratings

USA Network, led by a host of Adam Sandler theatricals, led basic cable in
primetime last week.

Barry Diller's general-entertainment network averaged a 2.4 from June 11
through 17, according to a Turner Entertainment Research analysis of Nielsen
Media Research data.

With multiple airings of Sandler's The Waterboy and Billy
Madison
, USA easily outdistanced Lifetime Television and Cartoon Network,
which finished in a tie for second with a 1.8 average. Turner Network Television
and TBS Superstation were tied for fourth with a 1.6.

Rounding out the top 10 in household ratings: Nickelodeon at a 1.4; A&E
Network and Discovery Channel, both with a 1.1; and Sci Fi Channel, The History
Channel and FX, all at a 1.0 average.

USA's presentation of The Waterboy June 12 was the medium's
highest-rated show last week, notching a 5.1 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. that night.
The film also claimed basic cable's fourth, fifth and sixth positions with
ratings of 3.3 (June 16 at 9 p.m.), 3.0 (June 17 at 6 p.m.) and 2.8 (June 12 at
11 p.m.), respectively.

Sandler's Billy Madison ranked 10th with a 2.5 June 11 from
9 p.m. to 11 p.m. and tied for 11th June 17 with a 2.4 during the
aforementioned time slot.

While TNN: The National Network's World Wrestling Federation Entertainment
Inc. fare placed second and third for the week, TNT's premiere installment of
its Witchblade series earned a 2.7 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. June
12.
