SaskTel Taps Alcatel

Alcatel announced that Canadian telco and video provider Saskatchewan Telecommunications plans to upgrade its network using its next-generation Internet-protocol products.

SaskTel will deploy Alcatel’s “7450” Ethernet-service switch and “5620” service-aware manager on its converged packet-transport network using IP MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) as the core protocol.

“The Alcatel solution enables us to build an innovative and flexible network that easily integrates into our network-operations center, allowing us to provide advanced multimedia services to residents across our province,” SaskTel chief technology officer Kym Wittal said in a prepared statement.
