SBC Communications Inc. added 100,000 digital-subscriber-line/Dish Network satellite customers in the second quarter, along with 315,000 DSL-only customers.
Both businesses helped boost overall revenue slightly, to $10.3 billion in the second quarter, compared to $10.2 billion last year.
“SBC delivered a solid quarter with strengthened fundamentals,” said company chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre. “In both long distance and DSL, our weekly run rates improved substantially as we moved through June, and we have begun the third quarter with solid momentum.”
SBC now counts 121,000 direct broadcast satellite subscribers and 4.3 million DSL subscribers.
Elsewhere, Earthlink added 47,000 new broadband subscribers, offsetting the loss of 16,000 subscribers on the narrowband side.
Earthlink counts 4 million narrowband and 1.2 million broadband subscribers.
