Sci Fi Rolls a Seven


Pasadena, Calif. -- Sci Fi Channel should have seven new series on the air by the end of 2007, including one in development by producer Mark Burnett with themes that sound reminiscent of The Da Vinci Code.

Also in development is a dramedy series, Witch Doctor,from the creator of animated series The Tick; and Outpost, a series about space explorers.

Projects nearing completion include The Lost Room, the next cable project for former Six Feet Under star Peter Krause.The premise of the show, due to debut in December, is that there are 100 objects scattered around the world that are imbued with mystical powers, including a key that allows access to a mysterious "lost room."

Previously announced series Eurekadebuts later this month, and soon the channel will launch Pain Killer Jane, based on a series of graphic novels.

Another literary adaptation is The Dresden Files,based on series of novels by Jim Butcher profiling a Chicago-based investigator who also happens to be a wizard.

And comic books get their attention, too, with Who Wants to Be a Superhero?,produced by comic-book veteran Stan Lee. In this reality series, premiering July 27, 11 otherwise-normal people create a superhero persona and vie for a chance to have their character immortalized by Lee in a new comic book by Dark Horse Comics.
