Scolnik to Head National Geographic Digital Media

National Geographic Ventures named former AOL Europe executive Betsy Scolnik president of National Geographic Digital Media.

Scolnik, who joined NGV in September 2005, will run its digital-media and business initiatives, including operation of its Web site and the National Geographic digital film archive, in addition to short-form video programming, production and distribution, the company said.

Before joining National Geographic Digital Media, Scolnik was vice president and general manager of entertainment at AOL Europe, based out of London and AOL’s Dulles, Va., headquarters.

While Fox Cable Networks owns a majority stake of National Geographic Channel in the United States through a joint venture with the National Geographic Society, NGV is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Geographic Society.
