New Orleans - CommScope, looking to move higher up the food chain, is launching the BrightPath Optical Solutions family of products designed to give cable operators a comprehensive headend-to-the-customer solution from a single vendor.
The BrightPath Optical Solutions, or "BOS," line includes headend, outside plant and customer-premises products to enable technologies such as DOCSIS-enabled Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON), Radio Frequency over Glass (RFoG), and hybrid-fiber coax (HFC) node segmentation.
"We really want to move more into doing active electronics and outside plant," CommScope vice president of advanced broadband solutions Shane Eleniak said. "We want to give MSOs a complete solution."
The BrightPath Optical Solutions line will put CommScope into more direct competition with Arris, Motorola, Cisco and Aurora Networks, "as opposed to a Corning or a Tyco," Eleniak added.
The BOS solutions include passive optical networking equipment, including optical network terminals and optical line terminals. CommScope is reselling the OLT provided by CTDI.
"You haven't seen a complete set of solutions that address all the different architecture choices," said Eleniak, who was previously head of marketing and business development for Alloptic, a provider of RFoG products that is now part of CTDI.
