SCTE Taps Standards Director, Seeks Women Noms

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers said Wednesday that it has named Thomas Russell director of standards.

Russell had been a technology consultant with TTM Development Co.

"Tom will be providing the primary administrative support to the SCTE’s Digital Video Subcommittee and Hybrid Management Sub-Layer Subcommittee, along with technology expertise across the entire SCTE Standards Program," SCTE vice president of standards Steve Oksala said in a release.

The SCTE also announced Tuesday that, along with Women in Cable & Telecommunications and Communications Technology magazine, it is accepting nominations for the "2004 Women in Technology Award."

Created in 1995 to recognize and honor leading female technology professionals, the annual award acknowledges the achievements of one woman who has demonstrated outstanding personal and professional growth and significantly contributed to the cable-telecommunications industry.

The 2004 Women in Technology Award will be presented by CommScope Inc. during a special luncheon Wednesday, June 16, at the SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo 2004, being held June 15–18 in Orlando, Fla.

She will also be the subject of Communications Technology’s July cover story.

The deadline for nominations is March 1.
