SCTE/ISBE Names Co-Chairs for Energy 2020

SCTE/ISBE said Tony Werner, president of technology and product for Comcast Cable, will co-chair the organization's Energy 2020 program together with Balan Nair, executive vice president and CTO of Liberty Global.

Nair previously co-chaired the group with John Schanz, the former EVP and chief network officer at Comcast who has since moved into an advisory role at Atairos, the investment vehicle set up by former Comcast vice chairman and CFO Michael Angelakis.

Energy2020 in 'Show Me the Money' Phase

As the new co-chairs of Energy 2020, Werner and Nair will work together with Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE/ISBE, as members of the Steering Committee for the program. Mark Hess, senior vice president, business and industry affairs for Comcast, will serve as program technical advisor.

Energy 2020’s is targeting  a reduction in power consumption by 20% (on a per unit basis), a 25% reduction of energy costs (also on a per unit basis), a 20% optimization of the technical and datacenters footprint 20%, and a 10% reduction in grid dependency.

SCTE/ISBE also announced that Simpson Cumba, vice president, data center services for Comcast Cable, and Sam Khola, director, sustainability for Liberty Global, will serve as chair and vice-chair, respectively, of the Energy Management Subcommittee (EMS) within the SCTE/ISBE Standards Program.  That subcommittee also includes representatives of Alpha Technologies, Arris, Cisco Systems, CommScope, CableLabs, Hitachi Consulting, and Metrocast, as well as other operators and technology partners.
