SeaChange CMO McGrath To Lead ThePlatform's European Campaign

ThePlatform, Comcast's online-video publishing subsidiary, hired Simon McGrath -- most recently chief marketing officer of SeaChange International -- to lead its foray into Europe.

McGrath, as general manager of thePlatform Europe, will lead its go-to-market strategies and operations in the region, reporting to CEO Ian Blaine.

"European content owners, TV service providers, and other video aggregators are seeking efficient and scalable means to deliver video across multiple screens," Blaine said in a statement. "We're confident that Simon's operational, marketing and sales leadership will play a key role in serving the European market."

SeaChange said it does not plan to name a replacement for McGrath. "With Simon's focus on the European market over the last few years, the CMO function had already been replaced using existing internal staff," SeaChange president Yvette Kanouff said in an e-mailed statement.

McGrath was named SeaChange's CMO in November 2007. He had been director of strategy and development of SeaChange's U.K.-based subsidiary On Demand Group Ltd. since September 2005, after joining ODG as chief technology officer in 2002. SeaChange acquired ODG in 2005.

McGrath also served as chief sales and communication officer of Lysis SA, a content management software company based in Switzerland, which had acquired Concision Ltd., a company he founded.

Also Wednesday, thePlatform announced that Darren Grimstead has been promoted to director of European sales, reporting to McGrath. He spent the last eight years leading thePlatform's media and entertainment sales channel as director of media and entertainment sales with clients including PBS, Starz, NBC Local Media, truTV and News Digital Media.

Both McGrath and Grimstead will be based in London.
