After pretty much announcing the deal during its recent quarterly earnings
call, SeaChange International Inc. went ahead with the formal announcement
Tuesday that it will provide video-on-demand systems for Insight Communications
SeaChange's VOD equipment will be deployed by November in Insight's 10 cable
systems serving about 1.4 million customers in Rockford and Champaign, Ill.;
Anderson, Bloomington, Evansville and Kokomo, Ind.; Covington, Lexington and
Louisville, Ky.; and Columbus, Ohio.
The SeaChange equipment replaces gear from now-defunct Diva Systems Corp.,
which effectively shut down when the bulk of its assets were sold to Gemstar-TV
Guide International Inc. earlier this summer.
It will serve up content to Motorola Broadband Communications Sector
'DCT-2000' set-tops, and it includes SourceSuite LLC's 'SourceGuide' electronic
programming guide and middleware from Liberate Technologies.
Content includes on-demand and subscription-VOD titles ranging from movies to
television series, as well as Rainbow Media Corp.'s Mag Rack and programming
from Home Box Office and Starz Encore Group LLC.
