SeaChange Launches Tool To Verify VOD Availability For EBIF Apps

SeaChange International will debut EngageTV Validator, software designed to guarantee quality of service for Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format subscriber applications that link to external video assets, at next week's CableLabs Summer Conference 2010.

The EngageTV Validator intercepts EBIF applications that are linked to video-on-demand resources and verifies their availability, thereby guaranteeing the delivery of a consistent interactive experience, according to SeaChange. The solution is headend-based software.

Separately, monitoring-systems vendor Mixed Signals, now part of Tektronix, sells a solution to let cable operators ensure EBIF elements will work as expected.

Also at the CableLabs conference, SeaChange will feature its Watch & Buy T-commerce extension for VOD services, designed to offer DVDs and other related merchandise for sale to subscribers. The vendor showed off that app at the 2010 Cable Show in May.

"Solutions like the EngageTV Validator and Watch & Buy are benefitting from the standards that CableLabs is working to establish, helping operators to add new services and capabilities without impacting their operational performance," Anthony Landamia, SeaChange's general manager of advanced applications, said in a statement. "These solutions are first in a suite of sustainable revenue-generating products from SeaChange that provide the advantages of interactive advertising and T-commerce."

The CableLabs Summer Conference, Aug. 15-18 in Keystone, Colo., is a members-only event that provides a look at new broadband technologies and serves as a meeting forum for the cable consortium.
