DirecTV Inc. confirmed that it had received a request for information from the Securities and Exchange Commission on its subscriber-counting methods, Reuters reported.
The Los Angeles Times also reported that direct-broadcast satellite rival EchoStar Communications Corp. received a letter asking for the same information.
The SEC sent letters to Comcast Corp. and Cox Communications Inc. in June requesting similar information.
A source told Reuters the agency has taken similar action with about 20 cable and telephone operators.
“It appears to be a routine request, and we will provide the information they have requested,” DirecTV spokesman Robert Mercer told Reuters.
