The second season of Lifetime Television's Drop Dead Diva got off to a strong start Sunday night.
The dramedy, starring Brooke Elliott as wannabe model who dies in a sudden accident only to find her soul resurfacing in the body of a brilliant, plus-size and recently deceased attorney, Jane, averaged a 2.5 household rating, up 14% from its 2.2 mark with its July 12, 2009 premiere, and 3.1 million viewers, 11% more than the 2.81 million average for its bow, according to Nielsen data.
Included in that total were 1.45 million adults 25 to 54, a 10% gain from the 1.32 million with that group during last summer's debut and the second-most with that demo in series' history, behind its August 30, 2009, episode, said network officials.
A further breakdown shows that the June 6 installment scored a 17% advance among women 18+ (2.35 million versus 2.02 million); an 8% increase with women 25 to 54 (1,.1 million versus 1.03 million; and a 6% gain against women 18 to 49 (963,000 versus 908,000).
Compared to last season's average, Drop Dead Diva's sophomore season starter registered increases of 10% among adults 25 to 54 (1.45 million versus 1.32 million) and total viewers (3.12 million versus 2.83 million); 13% among women 18+ (2.35 million versus 2.09 million); 6% with women 25 to 54 (1.11 million versus 1.05 million); and 4% with women 18 to 49 (963,000 versus 927,000).
