Senate Commerce Committee Sets April 29 Kids Online Privacy Hearing

The Senate Commerce Committee's Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance Subcommittee has scheduled a hearing April 29 on kids online privacy.

The hearing will look at the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act in light of new technologies.

Children's media issues have been of particular interest to Commerce Committee chairman Jay Rockefeller. The Federal Communications Commission is currently vetting comments on what, if any changes, it needs to make to its kids media rules in light of new digital platforms, including the Web.

The expected witnesses for the hearing: Jessica Rich, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission; Tim Sparapani, Facebook; Mike Hintze, Microsoft; Kathryn Montgomery, professor, School of Communication, American University; Marc Rotenberg, Electronic Privacy Information Center;Berin Szoka, director of the Center for Internet Freedom, Progress & Freedom Foundation
