SES to Deliver Cable Positive PSAs

SES Americom Inc. will deliver Cable Positive’s “Join the Fight” public-service announcements free-of-charge in time for World AIDS Day Dec. 1, the company said Monday.

During the cable and telecommunications industries’ AIDS-action organization’s “Join the Fight” campaign, director Joel Schumacher (The Phantom of the Opera, Phone Booth, St. Elmo’s Fire) and celebrity spokespersons Jamie-Lynn DiScala (The Sopranos), Jennifer Esposito (Taxi, Spin City), Nathan Lane (The Producers, Birdcage), Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Jeffrey Wright (Angels in America) deliver personal messages about how they have joined the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Each national spot directs viewers to a Web site (www.cablepositive.org/jointhefight) dedicated to providing information how to better educate yourself about HIV/AIDS, general information on HIV testing, how to volunteer your time and efforts to the cause and how to talk to your friends, family and loved ones about the epidemic.

The initial PSA feeds to cable systems are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. (EST) on SES Americom's “AMC-1” satellite. And the satellite company said it will distribute all additional Join the Fight PSAs over the next 12 months.

“By donating the distribution of our newest AIDS-awareness and prevention campaign and making these compelling PSAs available to cable operators and networks across the country, SES Americom has demonstrated the power of cable television in the fight against AIDS," Cable Positive CEO Steve Villano said in a prepared statement.

"Now it's up to the cable channels and operators to join the fight by airing the spots as often as possible to raise AIDS awareness and promote HIV prevention,” he added.
