The Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network threatened Mediacom
Communications Corp. with protests for its failure to carry The Word Network
after claiming that Mediacom CEO Rocco Commisso didn't return its calls.
Word -- an urban gospel and ministries channel -- has enlisted NAN to
strong-arm satellite and cable providers into carrying the network.
Comcast Corp. -- which wants to prevent Sharpton and other protesters from
throwing a wrench into its plan to merge with AT&T Broadband -- recently
agreed to carry Word in the Washington, D.C., area.
The NAN recently staged several protests in front of the headquarters of
EchoStar Communications Corp. and Charter Communications Inc., but those
companies still haven't agreed to carry Word.
