Shaw: Speed Still King

Speed and quality remain the key drivers for consumers in evaluating high-speed Internet offerings, according to a recent study by Canadian MSO Shaw Communications Inc.

Shaw surveyed 1,341 recent high-speed subscribers, with 72% saying that speed was an important factor in their choice of providers.

E-mail remained the top application, with 97% usage, followed by research at 89% and general entertainment at 58%.

"While the Internet space continues to be inundated with new applications and features, it's clear that customers view the core of the product -- namely, speed and reliability -- to be most important," said Kim Short, associate vice president at Ipsos-ASI, which conducted the research.
