Shaw Ups High-Speed-Data Rates

Shaw Communications Inc. said Wednesday that it will increase connectivity speeds for its Shaw High-Speed Internet service by up to 40%.

The Canadian MSO said the download speed for Shaw High-Speed Internet will be increased to up to 5 megabits per second from its current rate of up to 3 mbps, and its Shaw High-Speed Xtreme Internet will be increased to up to 7 mbps from up to 5 mbps, at no additional charge.

Shaw said the speed enhancements will roll out to subscribers in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo and Winnipeg, with other markets soon to follow.

“The enhanced speed levels we announced today will enable faster downloads of large files such as photos, videos and music, which is quickly becoming one of the most popular uses of the Internet in the residential market,” Shaw president Peter Bissonnette said in a prepared statement.
