New York -- Showtime Networks Inc.
unveiled a development slate last week that includes its priciest project ever -- the $15
million miniseries Bonanno, which is based on the authorized biography of Mafia
chief Joseph Bonanno Jr.
In addition to the six-hour miniseries, Showtime has 10
other films in the works, which will cost from $3 million to $4 million each, according to
a Showtime spokeswoman.
The lineup that Showtime has in development includes A
Cooler Climate, which stars Sally Field and Judy Davis in a tale of a middle-aged
divorcee who leaves her rich husband and has no means of support. so she goes to work for
a wealthy couple in Maine.
Showtime's slate also includes Freak City,
featuring Natalie Cole and Marlee Matlin, about a rebellious woman with multiple sclerosis
who is confined to a nursing home.
Marciano, about undefeated heavyweight champion Rocky
Marciano, is already in production, and it will feature Judd Hirsch and George C. Scott.
