New York -- Showtime has one-dozen new original movies in
development -- including projects with such talent as Emilio Estevez, Gillian Anderson,
Sam Waterston, Jennifer Beals, William Hurt, Rod Steiger, Tom Berenger and Jane Seymour --
officials said last week.
The slate includes Rated X, with Estevez and his
real-life brother, Charlie Sheen, slated to play the Mitchell brothers, who became porn
kings and destroyed themselves in the process.
Showtime is in final negotiations with Granada Films for House
of Mirth,which would star Anderson, Anthony LaPaglia, Eric Stoltz and Laura
Linney. The filmwill be based on the Edith Wharton novel of the same name.
Waterston and Beals have been cast in Dickson Family
Saga, the story of a woman born to a white slaveholder and one of his slaves in the
Civil War-era South.
The Big Brass Ring will feature Hurt and Miranda
Richardson in a tale of a man's quest for the governorship of Missouri and a family
scandal that threatens his campaign.
Steiger and Beals will star in Body and Soul,a
film that focuses on a poor boxer who fights compromise and corruption to become the
welterweight champion of the world.
Seymour will star in The True Life Story of Fanny Kemble,
about a free-spirited actress who fought against slavery in the antebellum South.
And Berenger has been cast in In the Company of Spies,which is about a CIA operative who is brought back to action to save a captured
colleague from North Korean authorities planning to blackmail the West with nuclear
