Showtime Visits Crown Heights

Continuing its push in the family-oriented arena, Showtime has green-lighted
another film under its 'Original Picture for All Ages' franchise, Crown

Production began last week on the movie, which will bow on the premium
channel sometime next fall.

The film, starring Mario Van Peebles and Howie Mandel, centers on the race
riots in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, where long-simmering tensions
erupted after an African-American child was killed in a car accident.

The film dramatizes how two community leaders strove to create dialog and
foster understanding between the Jewish and black residents of that community.
To that end, two boys form a rap group and build a friendship that sets an
example for their parents and peers.

Showtime -- which has won numerous Emmy Awards and nominations for its films
directed toward the young and young at heart -- also has A Separate
, based on the John Knowles classic novel, and Bang Bang You're
, a look at school violence, in its Original Pictures for All Ages
