American Cable Services will provide voice-over-Internet-protocol services for its broadband customers on a private-label basis with help from eLEC Communications Corp.’s VoX Communications subsidiary.

American, based in Ocala, Fla., has contracts to serve some 150,000 homes in the state.

“We've made a strategic decision to become the preferred VoIP solution for cable operators nationwide,” VoX president Mark Richards said in a prepared statement. “Independent cable operators represent a sizable and meaningful portion of this market, most of whom are weighing plans for a VoIP offering.”
