Hip-hop star Snoop Dogg will host Spike TV’s second-annual Video Game Awards, the network said Tuesday.

The Video Game Awards will air live from Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Calif., Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 9 p.m. (EST).

“Snoop is an icon and the perfect example of how Hollywood and the music industry have embraced the video-game genre and catapulted it into pop culture," co-executive producer Casey Patterson said in a prepared statement.

“He's a platinum recording artist, a movie star and a true gamer,” Patterson added. “Snoop's an original, and we're excited to have him as host of this year's show. He's hilarious and always brings the party with him.”

The network said its first Video Game Awards attracted more than 1 million viewers and topped cable’s Nielsen Media Research list for that night among viewers and males 12-34.
