SNY Nets Cosmos Coverage

SNY has added the New York Cosmos to its roster.

The regional sports network, home to the New York Met that reaches 13 million homes, will air all seven of the rebooted Cosmos home soccer matches during the 2013 North American Soccer League fall season.

Coverage will commence on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. with the Cosmos hosting the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium. The Cosmos on-air team will feature play-by-play announcer JP Dellacamera and Janusz Michallik as the color analyst.

SNY will also showcase five episodes of Cosmos Classics, the series looking back at some of the most memorable games in iconic’s club history and debuting on the RSN on Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. The Cosmos began play in 1971, spending 14 seasons in the North American Soccer League, winning five Soccer Bowl trophies and bringing some of the biggest names in world soccer to the U.S., notably Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, Giorgio Chinaglia and Carlos Alberto. The club announced it would return to NASL in July 2012.

Global sports service One World Sports, which is also presenting Cosmos action to the network’s subscribers on Dish Network, Cablevision’s Optimum TV and Mediacom Communications, will produce all of the matches, as well as the Cosmos Classics under the agreement, financial terms of which were not disclosed.

“The Cosmos have a rich and colorful history among New York area sports fans,” said Gary Morgenstern, senior vice president of programming for SNY, in a statement.  “We are excited to be partnering with the club during the rebirth of the franchise, and look forward to providing both new and long-time fans with a comprehensive package of games from the current season, as well as classic games from the 1970s and 80s.”
