As part of an ongoing strategic effort to increase its reach, target new viewers and expand its genre, Soapnet has acquired a package of 19 movies from Sony Pictures Television, officials said Monday.
SoapNet will use the films to expand its “Sunday Night Movies” franchise, from airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
The theatrical titles include Hitch, Fun with Dick and Jane, Something’s Gotta Give, Sleepless in Seattle, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Jerry Maguire, Groundhog Day, Roxanne, Fools Rush In, Postcards from the Edge, Only You, It Could Happen to You, Crazy in Alabama, IceCastles, Loverboy, Cruel Intentions 2, Mixed Nuts, Nadine and Lone Star State of Mind.”
The movies, which will begin airing in December, will join SoapNet’s recently announced new series including the reality show Greg Behrendt’s Wake-Up Call, which premieres Jan. 8 at 10 p.m.; the scripted drama Being Erica, which premieres Feb. 19 at 10 p.m.; and the docu-soap Southern Belles: Louisville, premiering June 4 at 10 p.m. The new programming complements the serialized drama found in SoapNet’s daytime and primetime offerings.
