Sony Corp. further blurred the line between gaming and TV device, announcing
its new "PSX" gaming module with TV-tuning capabilities.
The gaming device -- which will be released in Japan by the end of the year
and in the United States early next year -- will sport built-in DVD-recorder
capabilities, a hard drive and a broadcast/satellite tuner. As such, it is
intended to provide an all-in-one gaming and TV entertainment device.
There is speculation that Sony is also working on the next generation of its
"PlayStation 2" broadband-enabled gaming console. But thus far, the company has
remained mum on any update plans.
