Sony has signed a new multiyear agreement to license interactive program guide technology and patents from Macrovision Solutions.
The deal allows Sony to continue to use Macrovision's IPG technology and patents, under the company's Gemstar patent portfolio, for its products. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Macrovision's IPG technology allows consumer electronics manufacturers to integrate on-screen guide functionality into TVs, DVD players, digital video recorders and other devices.
Macrovision plans to change its name this summer to "Rovi Corp." pending shareholder approval.
