Sorenson Adds HEVC, VP9 To Encoding Toolbox

Sorenson Media has introduced Squeeze Desktop 10 and Squeeze Server 3.0, encoding tools capable of supporting both HEVC and VP9 encoding, giving customers access to more efficient platforms as they start to work with 4K/Ultra HD video.

“We surveyed our customer base in June 2014 and the results reinforced that the market demand for HEVC, VP9 and 4K UHD content in general is real and growing,” Cathryne Robinson, general manager for Sorenson Media, said in a statement.

Squeeze is a video encoding tool used by large content creators as well as home video editors, the company noted.  In addition to HEVC and VP9, the new version of Squeeze adds a feature called  Multi-Rate Bundle Encoding that automatically packages files for Apple HLS, Adobe Dynamic Streaming, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, MPEG DASH and MP4 downloads.

Sorenson sells the “Lite” edition of Squeeze Desktop 10 for $199, $549 for the Standard edition, and $749 for the Pro edition.

Sorenson customers include Bose, GoPro, PicturePark, Big  Sky Edit, and Cimaglia Productions, among others.
