Speed Channel will add women’s apparel to its merchandise list, the network said Tuesday.
“Speed Girl,” a line of items designed specifically for women, will join the “Speed Swag” gear and apparel available on the network’s Web site (www.speedtv.com/home.php) and at motor-sports events around the country.
The network said the first Speed Girl offerings will be available this weekend on its Web page and at the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing events in Las Vegas.
“Traditionally, Speed Channel has had a hard-core male audience, but our female viewers have been very vocal in letting us know that they are every bit as passionate about their racing and about their vehicles,” Speed senior vice president of marketing and on-air promotion Bill Osborn said in a prepared statement.
“When we launched our new line of Speed Swag earlier this year, we were getting regular e-mails asking for women's styles and sizes," he added. "They told us they wanted something more than their husband's T-shirts.”
