Men's targeted network Spike TV has renewed its franchise hit Deadliest Warrior for a third season, the network announced Monday.
The series, which through computer simulations compares combat styles to determine the most lethal in history, has averaged 1.6 million viewers over its first two seasons, according to Spike TV. The season 2 finale on July 27 averaged 1.4 million viewers and was the number two- ranked show on cable in its timeslot.
The third season, which is expected to air in Summer 2011, will feature new cast member and Navy Seal Richard "Mack" Machowicz, who will bring a "warrior's perspective to this series, as well as a weapons and battle tactician's expertise," the network said.
"We are confident the innovations to Spike's franchise hit, Deadliest Warrior, will be a big hit with show's ever-growing fan base," Sharon Levy, executive vice president, original programming, for Spike TV said in a release. "The addition of more scientific explanation behind the weapons and the historical context of the warriors will enhance the viewers' experience."
