The 90-minute program, beginning Aug. 24 at 11:30 p.m., scored a 1.97
household rating -- the best for ESPN's signature show since Jan. 6, when the
newscast followed a National Football League game -- according to Nielsen Media
The performance last Sunday nearly doubled the 1.06 rating the show earned
during the same time slot in 2001. It also played well among men 18 through 34,
producing a 2.45 rating among that set.
ESPN officials said results might have been higher had the show started as
planned at 11 p.m. They added that there were significant ratings spikes at 11
p.m. and 11:15 p.m. by viewers apparently looking for the show but instead
finding Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers battling
in extra innings.
