Having stumbled upon cable by virtue of serendipity, Tim Alexander has found quite a place for himself in the industry. Having grown dissatisfied with his job as a legal assistant for Perkins Coie in Los Angeles, Alexander embarked on a search for something different.
"I hadn't planned on working in cable. I had a friend who was a headhunter, and he told me about an opening at NBC," he explains. "I didn't think I would get the position because I didn't have experience in the field, but I did get it and the rest is history."
Now, after eight and one-half years with NBC Cable Networks, Alexander was recently promoted to director of affiliate marketing. He serves as a liaison between the east-coast office in New Jersey and west-coast office in Burbank, working with all of NBC's networks — Bravo, CNBC, CNBC World, MSNBC, ShopNBC, Telemundo and mun2 — as well as the cable piece of the Peacock's Olympics coverage.
"As a liaison for the two offices, I'm constantly traveling back and forth," Alexander says. "With the Olympics coming up next year, I'll have my work cut out for me, helping to create all the necessary materials for promotion."
Alexander also works closely with the sales team on promotion. "Bravo is the most pressing concern right now, as we're working to secure additional distribution," he says.
When not immersed in promo propagation, Alexander spends some time with his dogs, Lola and Opie. Also equipped with a taste for travel, he's planning on visiting Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro later this year.
