Sprint Switches On TV App For iPhone

Sprint Nextel launched a free Sprint TV app for the iPhone that provides access to streaming video from ESPN, ABC, NBC, The Weather Channel, USA, Bravo, Disney Channel and other cable networks for no extra charge.

The app, which works over Wi-Fi and 3G networks, is available to Sprint iPhone customers with unlimited data plans. The wireless carrier began offering the iPhone in October 2011.

Sprint TV also is available on other video-capable devices from the carrier, with the baseline channel lineup included with data plans. MobiTV powers the Sprint TV streaming service.

For iPhone and other devices, Sprint offers the $9.99 per month Sprint TV Xtra package with more than 25 channels, including Fox News, Fox Sports, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, ABC Family and Discovery Channel.

Other premium subscription tiers include: Sprint TV 4Biz, with Fox Business, The Wall Street Journal Digital Network and The Street for $5.99 monthly; Sprint TV en Vivo, with more than 20 channels of the Spanish-language entertainment from Univision, Telemundo, ESPN Deportes, Azteca America and others for $7.99 monthly; and Playground TV, with full episodes from Nick Jr. and PBS Kids and content from Sesame Street, Pocoyo and Discovery for $4.99 monthly.

In addition, Sprint offers My Life TV, which includes programming form E!, TLC, The Style Network, Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Network and Splash News for $6.99 monthly; and Urban Zone includes full-length shows from BET, hip-hop videos, stand-up comedy and classic TV shows for $4.99 monthly.

According to Sprint, some plans and devices have limited channels available.
