Richard Dean Anderson, the original star of Sci Fi Channel series Stargate SG-1, will join former fellow cast members in the Arctic, where they’re filming TV movie Stargate Continuum.

Producer Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer said Anderson -- who was with the show its first eight seasons and started out as the above-the-title star -- will reprise his role as General Jack O’Neill.

Next week, he and other cast members -- including Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Chris Judge and Michael Shanks -- will shoot Continuum scenes on location in sub-zero conditions in Alaska, where the production is working in collaboration with the U.S. Navy’s Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station (APLIS).

Continuum is the second of two Stargate movies MGM is producing for DVD and TV release. The other, Stargate: The Arc of Truth, continues story lines from the current season, the show’s 10th. Both are written and produced by Brad Wright and Robert Cooper. Also in the cast for both are current regulars Beau Bridges (who essentially replaced Anderson as leader of the U.S. Air Force’s off-world program) and Claudia Black.

Stargate SG-1 returns for its final run of episodes on Sci Fi Channel April 13.
