Starz is turning to the publishing
world to help get the word
out about its new miniseries
Pillars of the Earth.
The pay TV service has partnered
with book publisher Penguin
Group to create a new Starzbranded
paperback version of the
Ken Follett-penned best-selling
novel, which has sold more than
14 million copies worldwide,
Starz executive vice president of
marketing Nancy McGee said.
Along with the Starz brand, the
specialized book will have still
images from the series, which
stars Ian McShane, Donald
Sutherland and Rufus Sewell.
Starz will also preview the
first two hours of the series via
video-on-demand services and
the Web to more than 60 million
households beginning July
21, McGee said.
Blue Ridge Communications,
Bright House Networks, Buckeye
Systems, Charter Communications,
Comcast, Cox Communications,
RCN and Time Warner
Cable will offer the first two episodes
of the series on demand.
DirecTV will offer the first
two episodes of the series on its
101 Network over consecutive
days beginning July 21. Also
that day, AT&T will offer Uverse
subscribers the first two
hours of Pillars back to back on
the U-verse Buzz channel.
Fancast Xfinity TV (www.fancast.com) will feature the first
two hours of The Pillars of the
Earth for early online sampling
that day as well.
