Starz has announced casting decisions for several major roles in the network's upcoming Survivor's Remorse, the half-hour scripted comedy from NBA superstar LeBron James and Tom Werner.
Survivor's Remorse, which is expected to join Starz's lineup this fall, follows the fictional story of Cam Calloway, a talented hooper who is thrust into the world of professional basketball after signing a multi-million dollar contract with a team in Atlanta. The series portrays Cam and his family's struggles transitioning from impoverished life to the limelight through comedic and dramatic lenses.
Jessie Usher has scored the lead role. Usher, who starred in the Cartoon Network film and TV series Level Up, will also appear in the forthcoming film When The Game Stands Tall, alongside Jim Caviezel, Michael Chiklis and Laura Dern.
Ronreaco Lee (Glory, Let’s Stay Together) will portray Reggie Vaughn, Calloway’s cousin and closest friend. Lee has previously appeared alongside Bernie Mac in Guess Who? and with Viola Davis in Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail.
Teyonah Parris has been cast as Missy, Reggie’s wife. Parris is most well-known as her role as Don Draper’s secretary Dawn Chambers on AMC's Emmy-winning drama, Mad Men.
Erica Ash (Scary Movie 5, The Real Husbands of Hollywood) will play M-Chuck, Calloway’s sister, while Tichina Arnold (Martin, Everybody Hates Chris) is Cassie, the baller's mother.
James serves as the series’ executive producer, alongside Tom Werner, currently the chairman of the Boston Red Sox and the co-founder of Carsey-Werner, whose producer credits are attached to some of TV's top sitcoms: The Cosby Show, Roseanne, 3rd Rock from the Sun and That ‘70s Show.
Maverick Carter, James's manager, and Main Street Advisors CEO Paul Wachter will also executive-produce the series, which will shoot in Atlanta and is expected to tip off on Starz for a six-episode first season this fall.
