Starz Encore Group and Comcast Corp. said they plan to kick off a broad marketing campaign touting Starz on Demand and Starz! HD later this month.
Plans call for broadcast and cross-channel spots to run through the summer, as well as complementary print and direct-mail efforts.
The campaign is tied to an out-of-court settlement and carriage deal Comcast reached with Starz Encore in September, a source said.
Comcast and Starz Encore didn’t disclose how much money would be spent on the marketing campaign, which will focus on markets where the Philadelphia-based MSO has launched video-on-demand service.
Under the settlement Starz Encore reached with Comcast in September, Comcast agreed to pay Starz Encore fees based on the number of subscribers that take the programmer’s premium services.
Starz Encore had previously sought to collect flat fees from Comcast, based on a deal it had with AT&T Broadband.
